Our Story
The story of Lara & Sons begins in 1980, when Fermin Lara started working at Lucas Transmission. Starting as a general assistant, he worked his way up to become the lead differential builder, mastering the craft that would define his career.
When the transmission shop faced difficulties in the early 1990s, it was divided into separate departments. Fermin's differential division proved so productive that he eventually acquired the entire operation and building. In 1994, Lara & Sons Differentials & 4x4's was officially born, and the company was incorporated in 2000.
What started as a small family operation in LA County has grown into a respected specialty shop serving vehicle owners throughout Southern California. In April 2024, we relocated from Los Angeles to Jurupa Valley to accommodate our continued growth and better serve the Inland Empire region.
Today, we remain a family-owned enterprise with one mission: providing honest, expert drivetrain service for both the cars of today and the classics of the past — some dating back to the 1940s.

Differentials
This is our bread and butter. We handle differential repair, gear ratio adjustments for tire changes, and upgrades to performance components like lockers and posi units. Whether you drive a brand-new truck or a classic from the 1940s, we've got you covered.
Transmissions
We diagnose and repair slipping, noise, and shifting issues. Our approach focuses on component-level replacement rather than unnecessary full rebuilds — saving you money while getting you back on the road. Performance upgrades are also available.
Transfer Cases
For 4x4 owners, we provide transfer case repair services and adapter installations to improve your four-wheel drive system's performance and reliability.
